FAQ

What to Expect

Malibu Recovery Center is committed to ensuring each individual’s unique needs are met. Following a safe, medically managed detoxification (if necessary), a typical week at Malibu Recovery Center residential treatment or day treatment can include substance abuse education, process groups, relapse prevention, therapy groups, one-on-one counseling, outside 12 Step Meetings, Choice Theory learning groups, as well as guided meditation and physical activity. We also have a menagerie of options such as guided hikes, kayaking, surfing, bowling, BBQ’s, holiday parties, beach walks, and other adventures. Soba believes it is important to learn about what you love to do, and to be able to participate in those events with an open and sober mind.

Each resident’s treatment plan will be developed by our treatment team, with resident involvement, to allow the resident to focus on the key issues that may have been a stumbling block for long-term recovery in the past.

Staff members of Malibu Recovery Center have many years of professional experience and personal recovery. Therefore, we understand that many issues arise in early sobriety that can be difficult to handle. The staff at Malibu Recovery Center is on call 24 hours a day.

Malibu Recovery Center is licensed by The State of California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. What is detox like?

We try to make detoxification and substance abuse treatment at Malibu Recovery Center as comfortable as possible for our clients. Individuals are able to ease into a schedule. There are scheduled daily activities, including group therapy and meetings, which are specifically designed to help our clients get on the road to recovery. The schedule is not so hectic that clients are overwhelmed, nor is it so relaxed that it becomes boring. We are not a hospital or a psychiatric ward, so our clients are not locked in: We see our clients as our guests, and treat them as such.

When is detox necessary?

Detox is needed when someone is abusing and/or dependent upon alcohol, heroin, cocaine, crystal meth, pills or any psychoactive and addictive substances and cannot control the outcome. When someone consumes large amounts of alcohol or drugs on a daily basis, their body becomes dependent on it. This is the same with heroin and opiate pain medications, which often require detox. Other drugs such as benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, etc.), barbiturates, Soma and Ultram also cause withdrawal symptoms and may require detoxification. If you feel you may need to detox, or are concerned for a friend or loved one, please do not hesitate to contact us. 866.547.6451

How long does detox take?

The exact answer depends on the type and amount of a drug being used, as well as the individual’s overall physical health, so our intake specialists will help determine the best course of action on a case-by-case basis. A person’s age and health condition plays an important role. As a general guide, the average length of stay is around one week for alcohol or opiate detox, and slightly more than a week for benzodiazepine and barbiturate detox. Discharge and treatment plans are developed with the client to determine what type of support will be available after detox.

Can I continue to see my therapist, trainer and/or doctor?

At Malibu Recovery Center we work to incorporate what you and our specialists believe will be the best possible treatment for you. We believe this often includes continuing to work with the professionals you have already established.
